Operational
Modes > Mobile Mode option (for Web Filter 5.x.xx software):
Web Filter software
release 5.0.00 introduced the Mobile Security Client (MSC) that
works with either a Web Filter or Secure Web Gateway. The MSC client
installed on an end user's mobile workstation communicates with
the mobile Web Filter to provide the mobile user his/her filtering
profile.
NOTE: Due to operable changes between Mobile Security Client and
the legacy Mobile Client product, MSC is incompatible with the legacy
Mobile Client and is only available for use on Web Filters running
software version 5.x.xx. The Mobile mode is not available on IR or WFR units.
However, if running software version 5.0.10 and higher on an IR or
WFR Web Filter in a synchronization environment, a source IR/WFR Web
Filter can be used for configuring MSC settings, and generating and
managing certificates.
Administrator
Console Settings
In the mobile mode (Mobile option selection), the Web Filter will
not filter segments on the network but will only filter end users
on mobile workstations physically located outside of the organization.
NOTE: If using the mobile mode, all Web Filter features are available
except Range to Detect and Synchronization for IR and/or WFR units.
Hardware Settings
A Web Filter configured in the mobile mode can work in conjunction
with a Web Filter set up in invisible, router, or firewall mode.
In this scenario the mobile Web Filter would filter mobile workstations
located off the premises, while the internal Web Filter configured
in the invisible, router, or firewall mode would filter workstations
located on the premises, as well as any mobile workstation that
enters the premises.
