AD
Agent: Teams
A
team is comprised of primary and satellite hosts.
How
a team operates:
- The primary
AD Agent host runs the show, and satellite hosts are “dumb
scanners”.
- Configuration
is centralized at the primary AD Agent and distributed to the
satellites automatically.
- Satellites
send session events (logon/logoff) to the primary AD Agent to
maintain the central session table.
- Windows named
pipes provide the backbone. The primary AD Agent must be allowed
to talk to satellites and vice-versa (no security boundaries or
solid firewalls).
How to configure
a team:
- Install
AD Agent software on all designated satellite servers, and
open the Configuration window.
- In the Agent
hosts page on each satellite, specify the satellite role and identify
the primary server during setup.
NOTE: Add
satellites to the team on the primary AD Agent.
Optional: On the primary AD Agent, configure network segments
for each satellite. (Any satellites not specifically configured
will be automatically assigned by the primary).
-
In the
Service page on the primary AD Agent, start or restart the primary
service.
-
Refresh
work assignments.
-
Let the
system run for 30 minutes or more.
-
Check statistics
for each satellite; look for imbalances and/or unusual indicators
in the Status Detail window.
NOTE: Each team member reports performance statistics at 10
minute intervals to the primary AD Agent. The goal is a well-balanced
team, each with stable and acceptable workloads.
